What type of coach do I need?
If you Google coaching you will find a multitude of types of coaches including: executive, life, transformational, career, business, success. In the end, the best way to determine the best coach for you is to be clear on the results you are looking for.
So how do I choose the best coach for me?
The most important thing is to look for someone who has been professionally trained. You might not want to work with someone who has been told by friends and family that they are good listeners, and then decide to hang out a sign saying that they are ‘a coach’. Also find out what ongoing training and development your coach is engaged in. Do they ‘walk their talk’ by having their own coach, accountability partner and mastermind group.
Chemistry is critical to the success of the coaching relationship. Trust your intuition – interview different coaches to see who you feel comfortable with. But you don’t want to be so comfortable that you won’t make changes…remember why you are seeking a coach!
Be aware of red flags by avoiding coaches who make unrealistic promises. You also want to be respected for your thoughts and feelings, as there may be coaches (well intentioned) who push their own agenda or push you to make a major life change before you are ready.
